Shawn Turak

Ohio County Prosecuting Attorney

Shawn R. Turak is the Ohio County Prosecuting Attorney, having assumed office on January 1, 2025, after being elected to a four-year term in the November 2024 General Election.

With over two decades of experience in the legal field, Shawn has been a dedicated memeber of the prosecutor's office since 2002. Before being elected to her current position as the county's top law enforcement officer, she served as the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, where she gained a wealth of experience in criminal law and administration.

A committed advocate for justice, Shawn's aggressive pursuit of criminals has resulted in the conviction of hundreds of violent offenders, including murderers, drug dealers, sexual predators, armed robbers, arsonists, and child abusers. She has prosecuted more that 550 felony cases and personally tried numerous high-stakes cases, establishing herself as a fierce defender of public safety in Ohio County.

Turak holds a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University and earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Before joining the prosecutor's office, she worked in private law practice in both wheeling and Pittsburgh and completed a year-long state court clerkship in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

Beyond her professional work, Shawn has served on several local boards, including the Wheeling Symphony Auxiliary, the Junior League of Wheeling, Habitat for Humanity, Crittenton Services, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. She also spends time at St. Joseph's Cathedral Catholic Church, where she serves in various volunteer roles.

Turak is married to her husband, Christopher, and they are the parents of two sons. The safety and prosperity of Ohio County's residents remain at the forefront of her priorities, both in and out of the courtroom.
